RISE VOICE VOTE Youth Project
Rise Voice Vote is an inter-generational activist and youth engagement project which brings secondary school students and youth groups together with women’s activist organisations, elected representatives, community activists and the Pankhurst Centre to look at the “Past, Present and Future” of women’s activism and campaigning. The project is being co-ordinated and facilitated for the Pankhurst Centre by Happen Together Community Interest Company.
10 school and youth groups from across Manchester will be visiting The Pankhurst Centre to explore the work and legacy of the suffragettes. Our volunteers will be invited to support these sessions, and help develop educational resources for use in the future. This session will be followed by workshops in schools that explore the current work of women activists and women-led organisations in Manchester, and the importance to local women of exercising their right to vote.
In the autumn, young people will then brought together at the People’s History Museum to ‘hack’ their own campaign for social change to shape the future they want to see. The project will enable The Pankhurst Centre to develop a number of new resources and use the latest digital tools to take the Pankhurst story out to schools and youth groups all over Manchester, Greater Manchester, and beyond… More information about Rise, Voice, Vote is available on the website. This project has been made possible with a grant from the Women’s Vote Centenary Fund.
