The Pankhurst Centre will be hosting a day (11am-4pm) and an evening (7pm-10pm) of activities to celebrate International Women’s Day 2012 on Thursday 8Th March!

The day will be packed full of women orientated workshops with focuses recognising women’s unseen work in the home using drama, the involvement of working class women in the feminist movement, boosting confidence and self esteem as facilitated by Tania Lopez from the Manchester Adult Education service, and offering women the opportunity to build on the demands of the seventies by looking at current issues such as trafficking.

There shall be a presentation of present day women’s stories based within the heritage area of The Pankhurst centre to bring together the legacies of women past and present. There will also be a performance telling the tale of life as a working class suffragette, along with a jewellery making workshop and an international buffet lunch.

During the evening there shall be a hot meal followed by vocal performances from our resident choir ‘The Pankettes’ as well as a solo performance from Linda Strong. Our evening celebration shall also feature an inspirational performance from the all female African drumming group Wangari along with a performance poetry act.

All women welcome.

Chorlton’s Big Green Festival is an annual celebration of sustainable living in Manchester which offers a vibrant mix of live music and performance, hands-on practical workshops, food and drink, arts and swaps, and much more. Best of all, entry to the festival is completely free!

Chorlton’s Big Green Festival launched in April 2009 with an estimated 4,000 people joining in the green festivities. CBFG 2012 expects an even bigger response! Each year the festival activities are based on a different theme and 2012 is no exception to the rule. Following the 2011 ‘Bike to the Future’ theme, which saw many local residents take to the streets for the green bike parade, the team at Green Chorlton have this year chosen ‘The World In Chorlton’ with a view to expand the festivals reach to other community and cultural groups. ‘The World In Chorlton’ represents the celebration of all things local and cultural and promises a varied range of fantastic entertainment and activities for the whole family.
